0.205.0 has begun the process of rolling out and we’ve done our usual APK teardown. There’s a few things to report so lets get started!

Routes will have options for cooldowns and expire times indicating a certain time limits to complete a route and a wait period before being able to re-do a route.

Routes will have a name, description, who created it, an image, a version and whether you’ve received the rewards for completing it or not.

There are activity types associated with routes. Seems like (for some routes at least) you’ll have to complete an activity, not just spin the disk. There will be an option to skip an activity. Don’t know how this will affect route progression though.

It appears that stops and gyms that are a part of a route will have a shimmering effect.

When you complete a route you will be able to give it a star rating and a reason as well as indicate a theme for the route.

There will be a nearby route tab. The nearby routes list can be sorted by length, proximity, rating, category and icons.

Route play and discovery settings were added to the Buddy code. It’s likely once you have reached a certain level with your buddy it will locate routes for you in a similar way to it finding pokestops for you to spin.

There were also some changes to the AR scans and upload retries etc.
Snapshots for wild Pokemon code has been added/updated. This was needed so that the quests for the New Pokemon Snap event that was mined last week can be completed.
Speaking of the quests, they’ve been added in this version too.
Mined assets from 0.205.0
Assets for the Rainy Lure module and its effects have been added in this version. Additional assets for the route feature were also added.
In good/bad news: 0.205.0 has changed the way assets are handled. This means all assets in the game will need to be re-downloaded again when you upgrade (so make sure you are on WiFi). As such, we can see the changes, but can’t currently access them without doing more digging, but we can see the following:
Several 2D sprites were added for new gen 6 Pokemon including Barbaracle, Sylveon, Swirlix, Tyrunt, and Goodra
All Megas have had their 3D assets added*****
Some Gen 7 mons have had their 3D assets as well including Lunala, and Sandygast
We’ll report back when we have more information about this.
*UPDATE: It turns out that not all megas have their 3D assets added. Blaziken, Camerupt, Glalie, Salamence, Metagross and Diance weren’t added.

Buttons and support for the new evolve options such as the evolve while the phone is upside down that has previously been found in the texts.
Some weather warning and reporting updates. The assets seemed to have been updated too but they looked the same to us.
Your buddy may have a cameo during encounters. Not sure if this is part of the ball return feature that exists or if it’s perhaps your buddy making an appearance in wild Pokemon snapshots.
The map’s sky may be getting an “enhanced” version at some point.
A new function was added to Pokemon battles. One hit KO?!
Finally, several backend libraries were updated in this version, including SafetyNet, Unity notifications, and Android X goodies.
